It matters when you exercise, if you want to make the best use for time. For example, if you walk on a treadmill for 30 minutes in the morning after waking up, it will yield more benefits than if you walk on a treadmill for 30 minutes after eating.

Fasted cardio, meaning performing cardiovascular exercise in an unfed state, has many advantages compared to cardio exercising after eating.

Very importantly from a fat loss perspective, fasted cardio quickly eliminates residual carbohydrates from your body. After you complete the cardio session, your body has no choice but to access fat stores for energy (a process known as lipolysis), and after a couple of hours, supplements this lipolysis with an increase in autophagy.

So, with fasted cardio, you get all the benefits of cardiovascular fitness combined with a prolonged period of fat burning in the fasted state, supplemented by autophagic protein catabolism.

Fasted cardio is tremendous value for your time. Whatever cardio exercise suits you is fine, and it’s totally up to you what your preference is.

The main types of cardio machines usually available in gyms are treadmills, elliptical trainers, rowing machines, exercise bikes, and stair climbers.

Of course, you don’t need to exercise and a gym to achieve a cardio workout. You can go for a run, or a brisk walk. You can go swimming if you have access to a pool, or you can go for a bike ride if you find that enjoyable.

Our recommendation is that you perform your cardio workout early in the morning. The problems that you may encounter are rain and bad weather, and freezing cold. You may be a wilderness enthusiast, but it is not really anyone’s idea of a good time to go for a run in the early morning rain. And, unless you are a boxer, it’s not that much fun doing running road work on a freezing winter’s morning.

So, having access to a cardio machine is a big advantage. As previously stated, whatever cardio exercise suits you is your preference, but if you want our recommendation on which machine to use, it would be the treadmill.

On the next webpage, we will give you our reasons why we recommend the treadmill over all of the other machines.
